Welcome to

Lynn Keeves Counselling

Helping You to Reach Your Potential.

Counselling and Supervision in Bletchley, Milton Keynes and Online.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Lynn Keeves Counselling.

My name is Lynn Keeves and I am a BACP Registered Counsellor offering Counselling and Supervision in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. I also offer online sessions, reaching across the UK including the surrounding areas of Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.

I qualified in 2014 with a CPCAB L4 Diploma in Therapeutic counselling and in 2022 with a CPCAB L6 Certificate in Supervision. During this time I have had extensive experience and additional training in the areas of bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, life changes, domestic abuse and addictions. I have also been a tutor at Bedford College helping other therapists in their training.

My Approach

My experience and practice is firmly rooted in Person Centred Theory, which will ask you, not .... "What's wrong with you?" ...... but crucially "What's happened to you?" Although there is without doubt a place for diagnosis and diagnostic language, my basic assumption is that I am not the expert on your life, or what you should be, feel or think.

Working With Me

I believe in your potential and I will give you the freedom to explore, not only what has happened, but what does this mean for you now. In addition this foundation, I have a clear understanding of how our brains and physiology react to trauma and how it changes us . In addition, there are several theoretical approaches in therapy which I integrate to inform my work which help us with our exploration and the work of healing.

Sessions

I am a firm believer that the work of therapy is not to point the 'finger of blame' but to make sense and understanding. However, importantly the research about what actually works in therapy is that the relationship between us is one of the most important aspects of our work together.

Supervision

I work with individual therapists and groups who practice from various modalities. My supervision work is based on the 7 eyed model. I have a wide experience in a community setting and in a local women’s centre dealing with domestic abuse and sexualised trauma.

How can counselling help you?

“All change involves loss, and yet life itself is change. We are always giving up something for something else”

(Steven Grosz, The Examined Life)

As we navigate the things life throws at us, inevitably at times this brings some challenges. Counselling is a space where you don’t have to face this alone.

It’s a confidential, non-judgemental space which gives you the chance to explore your situation in a safe environment, gain new perspectives, empowering you to embrace and accept change - or indeed make changes and move forward with your life.

In the therapy space you will begin to understand yourself more and your motivations and reactions to what’s happened to you. My core belief is that given the right conditions you will be able to reach your potential.

Frequently asked questions

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy and gives it so much power. As an Accredited member of the BACP you can be assured that everything we discuss with stay between us and our professional relationship.

What this means is that to practice I must have a clinical supervisor. I meet with them monthly and they make sure that I am working ethically and safely with you and they can offer some different insights to our work together. I also have a duty of care to you, so if there is a risk of harm to you or someone else, this may mean a referral for further help or support, but this will always be done with your involvement if at all possible.

I am also of course bound by UK Law.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

I don’t see clients accompanied by anyone. I really understand how nerve-racking starting therapy is, but another key component of the work together is that you feel free to talk about anything without the worry of impacting someone. Often you may find that things are discussed that you have never dared to say out loud before.

How long will I need to have counselling?

After our first session, I usually suggest starting with 6 or so sessions, and then review how things are going. After that some people have long term counselling, some just a few sessions is enough and some just visit me occasionally to talk things through.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

This will depend on both your availability and mine. I hope to see you within a few weeks of our first contact.

You may not know it, but you’ve already taken the first step...

If you are reading this you’ve already taken the first step. I know it’s a huge leap for many people to make a decision to contact a counsellor. I know also that many people will struggle with mental health or a personal problem for much longer than they should before they come to the conclusion that resolving a problem may take more than just a friendly ear of a friend.

Sometimes a life events bring people to me, but for others it is “just time” to look at the impact of the past and to be able to enjoy today and look forward to the future.

How I see it...

Research and my experience has shown me that people that come to counselling are at varying stages of readiness for change. For example, someone could be coming to please another person and this has a big impact on the readiness for change.

I do believe that there is very often very little change in someone’s life without some, sometimes big, sometimes small, sacrifice. Counselling may be hard work emotionally at times, but the rewards are worth it. This is a road that you will not have to travel alone.

A fascinating journey begins here...

Seeing a therapist is not a passive act; it isn’t like visiting the doctor to be measured, assessed and treated. You don’t come away after one appointment with a pill to take and the responsibility ends there. Counselling and therapy are journeys with a guide through a familiar but somehow unusual land; they can be rewarding, sometimes confusing and often revelatory... what they aren’t is passive!
